It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is next week! The first trimester honestly flew by! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday next week with your families!! 💗
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK 💡
MATH:
Last week in math we continued moving through Chapter 3. Students practiced multiplying mixed numbers, and learned how to divide fractions.
READING WORKSHOP:
Our readers were super busy last week diving deeper into our literature study of Because of Mr. Terupt. Students identified and defined crucial vocabulary words, using context clues to build their language skills and enhance comprehension. We also crafted responses to questions and wonderings, using evidence form the text to support our opinions. Additionally, students analyzed how the characters have changed over time, paying close attention to their actions, thoughts, and feelings. I've been so impressed watching our class engage with the text through meaningful questions. They have definitely become more skilled at connecting with literature and developing their own interpretations of the story!
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Last week our writers began revising their personal narrative drafts. Students revised for sensory details, along with feelings, thoughts, and learning. We also analyzed opening and closing sentences in preparation for this week's publication process.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
Welcome to the 1760/1770s at Patton School!! Our class spent the week learning about several key events that caused tension in the colonies. Students learned about the French & Indian War, The Proclamation of 1763, The Quartering Act, The Stamp Act, The Boston Massacre, The Boston Tea Party, and the Intolerable Acts. (Phew, that's a lot!!) Students were also given their first bank of Shillings, which came with a laundry list of Queen Anderle's Royal Taxes! This is such a super fun time of year in fifth grade and we're excited for this week's adventures!!
