HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK 💡
MATH:
Last week in math we finished up Chapter 2. Students practiced solving real world fraction and mixed number problems. We reviewed the major concepts from the unit and took our final assessment on Thursday.
READING WORKSHOP:
Our small groups have already completed two cycles of guided reading (!!) and we continue to devote our time to growing our fiction comprehension skills. We began our first whole class novel study this week, Because of Mr. Terupt. Students are already fully immersed in this incredible story, and have begun to deeply examine TEN characters, whose actions we know will significantly impact the course of the story. Through discussions and note-taking, students are collecting evidence for main ideas/themes as we examine questions/wonderings, important thoughts, new vocabulary, predictions, connections, summarizing, and also the analysis of setting, plot, and character development! PHEW...we are busy readers!!
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Our Personal Narrative writing unit began last week! Throughout the week, students explored the characteristics of personal narratives and identified writing ideas based on special objects and interesting events.
