February just seems to be flying by! Thank you in advance to our Room Moms and volunteers for planning our Valentine's Day Party on Thursday! We're all looking forward to it!
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK:
MATH:
Last week in math we finished up Chapter 4. Students practiced solving real world multiplication and division fraction problems. We also reviewed the major concepts from the chapter, and took our final test on Thursday and Friday (it was a long one!).
READING WORKSHOP:
Our literacy time last week focused on the nonfiction text, Freedom Walkers. Throughout the week, students examined new vocabulary terms and practiced using various comprehension strategies to better understand this complex text. As we continued to explore this story behind the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott, students practiced questioning as they learned about the many boycott heroes. We also identified the main idea of the text and used supporting details to support our claim. Finally, students practiced summarizing using the main idea and details.
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Last week's writing time focused on revising and editing our fiction stories. Students examined point of view and conferred with writing partners, before beginning to type their final drafts.
SCIENCE:
Our exploration of matter continued last week as students examined the physical and chemical changes of matter.
THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS:
MATH:
We will begin Chapter 5, Algebra, this week!
READING WORKSHOP:
This week we will begin a whole class novel study on The Liberation of Gabriel King!
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Our writers will be publishing their fiction drafts this week!
SCIENCE:
We will continue our Matter unit this week.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
