The days are just flying by in fifth grade! It's hard to believe that the first trimester already comes to a close this Friday! We're continuing to build our classroom community stronger with each new week, and I'm excited for the months ahead! 💗
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK 💡
MATH:
Last week in math we wrapped up our lessons in Chapter 3. Students learned how to subtract mixed numbers with and without renaming. We also practiced solving real world addition and subtraction problems.
READING WORKSHOP:
We spent last week in reading focusing on determining main ideas and themes in fiction texts. Students practiced creating constructed responses identifying main ideas and themes, using at least three specific pieces of evidence to support their claims.
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Last week our writers continued to explore personal narratives. We examined examples of narratives that focused on valuable lessons learned in life, and practiced incorporating sensory details into our own narratives to engage readers.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
The 1760/1770s have arrived at Patton School! Last week we examined some of the rising tension in colonies that led to the American Revolution. Our class learned about the French and Indian War, The Proclamation of 1763, The Quartering Act, and the Stamp Act.
