It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is next week! The first trimester honestly flew by! Friday was a magical day celebrating our country's Veterans, and our 5th graders sang beautifully during Patton's assembly! I hope you have all a wonderful holiday next week with your families!! 💗
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK 💡
MATH:
Last week in math we continued moving through Chapter 3. Students practiced multiplying mixed numbers, and learned how to divide fractions.
READING WORKSHOP:
Our readers were super busy last week during our guided reading groups and Book Clubs! We continued engaging with texts during our small groups, and students worked diligently practicing summarizing, determining main ideas and supporting details, and making inferences. We also conducted our second and third Rules Book Club meetings!
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Last week our writers continued revising and editing their personal narrative drafts. Students analyzed opening and closing sentences, self-assessed their work, and met with writing partners for peer feedback. We also proofread our drafts for commonly misspelled words, and proper capitalization and punctuation.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
The 1760/1770s continued at Patton School last week, as our class reviewed the major events leading to the American Revolution. Students were also given their first bank of Shillings, which came with a laundry list of Queen Anderle's Royal Taxes! This is such a super fun time of year in fifth grade and we're excited for this week's adventures!!
THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS 📌

We will finish up Chapter 3 with our final lesson focusing on solving fraction multiplication and division problems. Students will review the major concepts from the unit and take their final assessment on Wednesday.
