I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day yesterday! It’s hard to believe that we have reached the final weeks of the school year! This will (most likely) be the final installment of The Anderle’s Adventures for the 2021-2022 School Year...and what a school year it has been!! Working with your children has been such an incredible privilege. Thank you for all you've done to support your child's journey here at Patton School! I'm looking forward to celebrating our remaining milestones together over these last few weeks! 💗 💗 💗

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK💡
MATH:
Last week in math we wrapped up Chapter 13. Students explored the properties of parallelograms, rhombuses, and trapezoids. We reviewed the major concepts from the unit and took our final assessment on Friday.

READING WORKSHOP:
We began our final nonfiction book study of the year, Children of the Wild West, last week. Students took an in depth look at the experiences shared by pioneer families as we examined frontier photographers and what life was like traveling west.

WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Our writers worked vigorously last week moving through the final stages of the writing process, preparing for publication of their expository nonfiction book creations. Students determined appropriate text features for their work, designed an About the Author page, and created a bibliography to credit their sources. We can't wait to share our books this week!

SCIENCE:
Our study of Ecosystems and decomposition continued last week! Students
observed dung beetles and carrion beetles, and explained how scavengers feed on the matter of nature’s waste. We also drew models to show how fungi and bacteria contribute to the movement of matter in ecosystems. Additionally, students created decomposition cups to discover what effect worms will have on the decomposition of plant remains over the next few days.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS📌
MATH:
We will begin our final math unit of the year, Chapter 14: Surface Area and Volume. This week students will focus on finding the volume of cubes and rectangular prisms.

READING WORKSHOP:
Our nonfiction study of The Children of the Wild West will continue this week.

WRITERS' WORKSOP:
Our writers will put the finishing touches on their expository nonfiction texts, and we will host a Gallery Walk later this week to share our work!
