Wishing each of you and your families a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year! See or "see" you all in 2021! 💗
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK 📌
MATH:
Last week in math we continued moving through Chapter 3. Students examined fractions as mixed numbers, division expressions, and decimals. We also learned how to add and subtract mixed numbers.
READING WORKSHOP:
Our super readers finished up our Fiction unit last week. Mini-lesson topics included elements of drama, unlocking meaning of unfamiliar words, and theme.
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Students continued exploring Personal Narrative writing last week. Students chose a narrative draft to bring through the publication process and begin working on revisions. Our writers revised for sensory details, and examined how to keep their verb tenses consistent.
SCIENCE:
Our exploration of Matter continued last week! Students loved our hands-on investigation of the properties of gases (our water, paper towel, and cup experiment)! It was so much fun to see our scientists formulating ideas and predictions, and then drawing conclusions based on their observations.
THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS 💡
Math:
We will finish up Chapter 3 this week. Students will practice subtracting mixed numbers. solve real world fraction and mixed number problems, and take a final quiz on Thursday.
READING WORKSHOP:
We will complete one final theme activity on Monday, and then students will take a short fiction assessment on Tuesday. We will spend the rest of the week focusing on applying comprehension strategies with our read aloud text, Ghost.
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Our writers this week will continue to focus on revising their drafts. We will revise for thoughts, feelings, and lessons; along with opening and closing sentences. Students will also have a chance to peer confer before our winter break begins!

Our super fun Matter unit will come to an end this week with our final lessons on heating and cooling matter, mixtures, and chemical reactions.
