Thank you for your continued support as we've transitioned into another learning model this year! Your children are incredible! They're resilient, innovative, and problem solvers. I can't imagine facing a year like this with any other group of kids. They make every moment, of every celebration and every struggle, worth it! 💗

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK💡
MATH:
Last week in math we continued moving through Chapter 4. Students practiced solving real world multiplication of fraction problems, and learned how to divide fractions and whole numbers.

READING WORKSHOP:
Our week was spent reading, analyzing, and discussing The Liberation of Gabriel King. Students examined new vocabulary terms and researched many of the historical facts mentioned in the story. We also selected character traits that define Frita Wilson, and used specific evidence from the text to support these claims.

WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Fiction writing continued last week in fifth grade. Our writers were super busy exploring fiction writing ideas. Students examined how to use messy situations, interesting people, and "what if" story starters in their work.

SOCIAL SCIENCE:
Our study of the American Revolution continued last week, and wow...things got pretty tense as our colonists learned about the Stamp Act! We also spent time examining the impact of the growing tension between the British Soldiers and the colonists, leading to the Boston Massacre.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS📌
Math:
We will wrap up (hopefully) Chapter 4 this week with continued practiced of dividing fractions and solving real world fraction problems. We are planning for a condensed version of a Chapter 4 Test on Friday. I'll let you know if that plan changes.

READING WORKSHOP:
Our novel study of The Liberation of Gabriel King will continue this week!

WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
This week in writing we will learn how to develop characters, plot, setting, and dialogue in our fiction writing.

SOCIAL SCIENCE:
Our study of the American Revolution will continue this week as we examine the Boston Tea Party and the Intolerable Acts.
