It seems crazy to me that the month of March is already halfway over!! These last two months have seriously flown by! Wishing you all a fantastic spring break filled with lots of rest and relaxation! 💗
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK💡
MATH:
Last week in math we began Chapter 8, Decimals. Students examined decimals through the thousandths place and explored the relationship between hundredths and thousandths. We also practiced comparing and rounding decimals.
READING WORKSHOP:
Our literacy time last week focused on the nonfiction text, Freedom Walkers. Throughout the week, students examined new vocabulary terms and practiced using various comprehension strategies to better understand this complex text. As we continued to explore this story behind the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott, students compared and contrasted the lives and experiences of JoAnn Robinson, Claudette Colvin, and Rosa Parks. We also determined important details as we examined the influence of Martin Luther King, Jr.
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Our fiction writing unit came to an end last week as we put the finishing touches on our stories. Students were busy examining first and third person perspectives, along with correct usage of verb tense. We also revised our stories for proper dialogue punctuation and met with writing partners for feedback.
SOCIAL SCIENCE:
In social studies last week we focused on The Constitution and Branches of Government. Students kicked off the week with an examination of the Articles of Confederation and the Constitutional Convention. We spent the remainder of the week researching the people, responsibilities, and powers of the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branches of Government.
