To say I'm excited to finally meet our class and to finally see students around Patton School is an understatement! I cannot even begin to express the colorful and assorted emotions I am feeling as we embark on yet another adventure together! Thank you for your continued support as we establish routines, dive deeper into curriculum topics, and build our classroom community. We are in a GREAT place as we transition to this next stage of our learning environment.!
Please continue to be patient this week as we move through several new routines and safety protocols. I encourage you to reach out to me at any time, with any questions or concerns you might have. I am more than willing to discuss anything that is weighing on your mind (or your child's).
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK💡
MATH:
Last week in math we continued moving through Chapter 2. Students examined powers of 10 and practiced multiplying by powers of 10.
READING WORKSHOP:
Last week's reading workshop focused on the power of conversation. Students learned that readers come together to have conversations in order to both share thinking, and grow ideas together. Additionally, using a few helpful hints and reminders, students learned how to activate schema to gain a deeper understanding of text.
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
With our first writing unit complete, we spent some time last week reflecting on our writing pieces and sharing samples of our work. Students selected a "proud. piece" to use for self-reflection, goal setting, and peer conferring. Additionally students had the opportunity to share their Learning from the Past writing projects. We all enjoyed hearing so many amazing stories and lessons from each other's lives!
SCIENCE:
Our Earth in Space unit came to an end last week. For our final lesson, students learned about Greek myths and how constellations came to be. Students researched constellations and created flipgrids to share their constellation facts and stories.
