Our first week of Hybrid was a success!! To say I'm proud of our class...both roomers and zoomers...is an understatement!!! They have been amazing and truly keep me motivated and energized!!! Their faces and smiles...(masks or no masks), their laughter, their excitement about being back make every ounce of exhaustion worth it! Thank you, once again, for all of your help and support in making this first week back a success!
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK💡
MATH:
Multiplication Week was a success!! Students spent each day practicing multiplication of 2, 3, and 4 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers. After a super busy practice week, we had a chance to wrap up our fun with an exciting multiplication bingo game day on Friday!!
READING WORKSHOP:
Our readers were busy last week studying their reading lives! We began collecting reading data with our new "reading habits" reading log, and made plans for ourselves as readers by creating a virtual reading bookshelf. Students also examined our book talk criteria, and began planning for their first book talk of 5th grade!
WRITERS'' WORKSHOP:
Our writing focus last week shifted from creators to editors as we examined the writing process. Students began by selecting a draft from their writing notebook to use for publication. After selecting drafts, we spent the remainder of the week revising our work. Students looked for places in their writing that were confusing or needed to be deleted. In addition, we created a list of questions to use when peer conferring to help elicit helpful feedback from our writing partners. Students met with their writing partners on Friday to share their first round of revisions!
SOCIAL STUDIES:
We kicked off our Colonization unit with a few backstories of colonization attempts. First, we examined the mystery behind Roanoke Colony! After discussing this mystery in our history, students wrote about their own theories of what actually happened to the colonists of Roanoke. Next, we took an in depth look at the settlement of Jamestown! Using a super fun nearpod, students collaboratively--both in the room and on zoom-learned about the struggles and hardships of the colonists who settled Jamestown. With this background knowledge in place, we are ready to take on the Thirteen Colonies this week!!
