Week two of Hybrid proved to be a success! I can't even begin to express to you how wonderful it has been to hear voices in our hallways, see students around our school, and share laughter and conversation in our room! Our class is truly special, both on zoom and in the room, and I am so thankful, everyday, that I get to be their teacher!
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK💡
MATH:
Last week in math we focused on division. Students practiced dividing by tens, hundreds, and thousands. Later in the week we moved into dividing two and three digit numbers by two digit divisors.
READING WORKSHOP:
We divided our reading workshop time last week into strategy mini-lessons and our whole class Notice & Note novel study of Because of Mr. Terupt. Students practiced identifying the elements of a story using our mentor text, as well as a short story. We also examined character development and compared two characters from Because of Mr. Terupt. The remainder of our week was spent immersed in amazing, higher level discussions of our novel, using the Notice & Note signposts and our stop & jots to guide our conversations.
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Our writers were also super busy last week! As we began to move through the writing process, students spent time analyzing and revising their drafts. We revised our writing for overused words and created strong opening sentences. Students also began to type the final versions of their drafts.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Our Colonization unit began last week! Students examined the general features of the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies, and selected their own colony to research. Students determined who settled their colony, its notable land features, the industry/economy, and the colonists' involvement in its government. After completing their research, students created a slideshow to share their colonial information with the class.
THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS 📌
MATH:
Math this week will be shortened (MAP TESTING). Students will continue practicing long division.
READING WORKSHOP:
Our Launching reading unit will come to an end this week. Mini-lessons will focus on interpreting reading long data, understanding the meaning of a poem, determining the main idea in nonfiction, and setting reading goals.
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
This week our writers will edit their drafts for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
Our Colonization unit will continue this week. Students will share their slideshows and compare and contrast the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies.
