Welcome back after the long weekend! Fifth grade continues to be busy and exciting!!! I'm looking forward to another great week together!💗
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK💡
MATH:
Last week in math we continued moving through Chapter 4. Students learned how to multiply improper fractions and mixed numbers by whole numbers. We also spent time solving real world multiplication of fractions problems.
READING WORKSHOP:
Our novel study of The Liberation of Gabriel King continued last week. Students have been really enjoying this inspiring story and our higher level discussions continue each day. Additionally, last week students identified literary elements, examined setting details, made connections to the story, analyzed characters, and compared and contrasted Gabe and Frita. As you can see, our readers have been super busy!
WRITERS' WORKSHOP:
Our third writing unit of the year, Fiction, began last week! Students examined elements of fiction writing, explored messy situations, and discovered characters' voices in fiction writing.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
The 1760/1770s have arrived at Patton School! Students examined some of the rising tension in colonies that led to the American Revolution. We learned about the French and Indian War, The Proclamation of 1763, and The Quartering Act. Students were given their first bank of Shillings on Wednesday...which came with a laundry list of Queen Anderle's Royal Taxes! This is such a super fun time of year in fifth grade and we're excited for this week's adventures (be sure to ask your child about tomorrow's social studies lesson)!
